About the Association
We are …

… the “Hidden Partners.” ®
The SoCo Wives Association is about ALL of us — every member and her loved ones.
The Association’s Creed is simple:
- We are committed to the success and prosperity of SoCo wives in their roles as “hidden” partners.
- We will speak honestly and use good business ethics.
- We are compassionate, strong, courageous, and resourceful.
- We will share what we have in talents, time, and experience to bring about the goals of the Association.
- We know conscious cooperation produces results.
- We will not intentionally bring dishonor or negative attention to either our husbands or the Departments.
- What’s talked about in the Association, stays in the Association.
The Association’s Flower — the purple iris: We chose the iris because the flower symbolism associated with the iris is faith, wisdom & cherished friendship
History of the Association:
2008 was a hard year for many Sonoma County first responders and their families. In December of 2008 one first responder’s wife spoke words of understanding, hope and encouragement to another wife going through one of those hard times. She may never understand how those words affected the other wife in such a powerful way that she hung onto them the entire next year. She now saw her situation as a way to help other wives through the experiences she had been through.
In the fall of 2009, she was introduced to the founder of the very first wives association and who now helps organize these associations for women all over the country. By taking personal experience, the empowerment of the words from 2008 and this amazing woman to help guide us, the planning for SoCo Wives began. With the support of a local church, and first responder’s wives from other Sonoma County churches coming together, they gave of their time and heart to make this association happen.
We realize how different we first responder’s wives are from other wives and how we can relate to and support each other. As first responder’s wives, we learn to put up a good front and be strong on top of all the other things that come with being a wife.
Our experience is there’s no support for the everyday issues we struggle with. We want to try to get as many wives together as are interested in an effort to build strong marriages and successful families through experience, friendship and training. We believe if we have friends who understand our fears and frustrations that we can be ourselves and truly be encouraged by one another. We are available to all wives of first responders and we hope you will join us.
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. – II Timothy 1:7
Therefore encourage one another and build each other up …
- I Thess. 5:11
